Blog Suicide

I recently read a person commit blog suicide. Blogging allows one to construct and manipulate the information that any one person can view. Appearance, weird traits and habits are easily concealed. It is a virtual persona. So, when a person decides to stop, it occurs in two different fashions. One is the fade. Slowly, posting becomes so infrequent that the blog fades to black and gathers dust and dies quietly. The other alternative is a "good by cruel world, I hope you miss me" posting. Blog suicide. It is ugly and leaves you wondering what went wrong, why the bitterness? I guess the freedom of a suicide note is that it allows no answer.

It's true. The note is a final nose-thumbing at the rest of the world with no fear of reprisal. We don't get to have that much in life, so we?

I always joke about my last day at work at what smart-ass things I will say to my clients. Actually, that is my next to last day, the last day I will schedule those who consistantly no show, and not even show up.

Blog suicide always leaves me so frustrated - I go through the five stages of grief.
I go through intense denial -"no way man... they'll come back - they're not gone."
I go through despair - " I can't believe they left me. Why did they leave me?
Then comes anger, - " what the hell? they had no right to do that to me."
Then I start bargaining, "Ok, if I bombard their farewell note with a zillion comments they'll come back, because they'll see how much they're missed"
And finally acceptance, "hmmm wonder what comes up when I hit the Next Blog button"

I wonder if there has been any suicide pacts. "like Romeeo and Juliet, are forever in eternity, Come on baby don't fear the reaper"

"I'll abruptly stop blogging forever if you abruptly stop blogging forever."

P.S. Sorry, I didn't have a Blue Oyster Cult quote to throw in.

So if you threaten to stop blogging but start again, is that just a pathetic cry for help?
